UNDERDOGS ONE OF THE TIMELESS APPEALS of the Bible is that it is good news for underdogs. What could be more inspiring than true stories about Davids in a world of Goliaths? That's not ignoring the fact that the same book can also bring us to the end of ourselves. Some chapters sound like bad news for "long shots." Some are often bothered, for instance, by Jesus' seven "promises to overcomers" ( REVELATION 2- 3 ). In a series of seven letters to seven churches at the end of the first century, the resurrected Lord offers reassurance only to those who overcome the challenges facing them. In His first letter, Christ warns those in Ephesus that, because they have lost their first love, they are in danger of losing access to the tree of life ( REVELATION 2: 4- 7 ). In the next letter, he urges citizens of Smyrna to overcome their fear of suffering and death so they can avoid being hurt by the second death ( REVELATION 2: 11 ). ( Part 2 ) ...

Dear Fellow Travelers: Some of the real reasons some of us don't spend more time with the Bible is that we're afraid of it. Makes sense to me. Why would we want to read a book that calls attention to our failures and multiplies our feelings of GUILT and FAILURE? Maybe that's why some of us don't want to go to the doctor for a checkup or don't want to balance our checkbook. If that's the way you're feeling today, I hope you'll read the accompanying column. We ALL NEED TO KNOW that BEHIND EVERY WORD OF THE BIBLE IS A WONDERFUL GOD WHO ---- IN THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES OF LIFE ---- CAN MAKE "EVERY UNDERDOG" INTO AN OVERCOMER. With Genuine Love, CW.1

TIME ...

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embracing, and a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace." (Ecclesiastes 3: 1- 8) "He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end." (verse 11) Greatness will cost you the currency of "Time". It takes "Time" to develop a relationship

"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." (2 Timothy 2: 3, 4)

Psalm 103 ...

Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earh, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities th

LAUGHTER ...

"Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!" - (Psalm 95: 2) It is wonderful how the memory of a funny story or a particular incident can bring joy to my heart and laughter to my lips years later. Laughter has the power to turn a seemingly sad day into a happy one. It is good for me and also for those with whom I share my laughter. When I laugh, I feel the positive effects throughout my body. As I relax, any tension I may have felt dissipates. I am positive and upbeat. Sharing as much joy as I can each day through laughter and smiles allows me to be an ambassador of goodwill. What a privilege it is to share the gladness of my soul with others! Through laughter, I share the gladness of my soul.

FREE ...

"As servants of God, live as free people." - (1 Peter 2: 16) I may believe in the freedom of others but sometimes have a challenge believing in my own freedom. I gain the freedom to do what I desire to do when I stop letting my own negative thoughts control me. If I feel that I have lost the willpower to overcome some dependency, I reclaim it now. I do not wait for someone to rescue me or do what is mine to do. I claim my freedom from negative habits and tendencies as I let the power of God's spirit within set me free and keep me free. When I truly realize that I can never be alone in anything I do, I have the courage to claim my freedom. I am free to say 'no' to someone or about something when my decision is the result of divine guidance. Yes, I am free, for the power of God within has set me free! I believe in the power of God to set me free!
